2014 / Keep Improving

“You can do anything that you want to do / with your mind body and soul / do it, prove it to yourself and say / I want (I want) / I will (I will) / I can do anything / It’s a difficult world and you have got to prove / that you’re ready and you can do it / Nothing in this world would stop you / I know I can I will fulfill my dreams!”

46 minutes to get this entry done and posted! Looks like charity, cheese and chess will have to wait. EOY must go on. ETC! While Jeff plays in the Shadow of Mordor…

ANYWAY! 2014, wow. This will have to be a short entry. It will also be a VERY DIFFERENT entry from my 2013 one. So much joy this year and so much luck.

Here are the 2014 themes:
SELF-IMPROVEMENT
TODDLERs are COOL (esp mine)
HEALTH (= GOOD)

IN SUM:
-everyone healthy. Healthy, healthy, healthy. Including my Dad. We are SO. SO. LUCKY.
-baby is a toddler and toddlers are GREAT!! LOVE!
-finally finding my Groove in Life as a worker/mom/wife/friend/etc. YESSSSSSS.
-getting better at marriage and everything post-baby, always room for improvement but I try
-NEW HOUSE. Moved away from psycho (most important part) and into a DREAM HOUSE. Now that we are settled I am so, so happy. What a GREAT use of our $$$! I seriously love this place.
-work: great. Super great. Moments of distress/stress but finished a major project AND got to go to a sweet leadership conference AND got to lead and hang with really awesome coworkers both old and new. Hitting my stride man.
-trips: Chicago 3x, NC with Jeff, SF once, and I think somewhere else but honestly I can’t remember. Oh yeah I went to St. Louis in May. Also Fargo in April, heh. All good.
-great family, as always. So happy to see everyone all the times I did…showers, get togethers, Halloween (cousins!!! YEAH, so fun), Thanksgiving. Etc. What a cool group. I should see them more…
-good friends, old and new. In a mom/baby group that I absolutely adore, I am quite lucky. Plus still get to have my dear and best old-gold friends, too. YEAH.
-dear old friends getting married (not to each other!) – Diana and Dave. SO happy to see them and their dear spouses wed.

We just (ok, 2+ hours ago….but still) got back from a most amazing NYE evening at my friend Sara’s house. It was just perfectly delightful and everything I could have dreamed of for my social life at 33…seriously! She had the moms group moms/babies/dads over to her lakeside abode for outstanding food, tons of laughs, comfortable conversation and toddler chasing (each other/us/them/etc). The kids were soooooooo sweet together and we all enjoyed each others’ company immensely. I have no idea how I got so lucky to sneak into this group of friends but I’ll take it. I keep waiting for them to find out how uncool I am but still I am ‘in’ ;). YEAH! haha.

I have a couple resolutions for 2015. 1. Not make anymore enemies…ok JK JK JK! But:

1. Be more conscious of phone use
2. Go to open gym 3x (or more, but, aim high etc)

Also to live out my manifesto I’ve been developing, seen above:

1. Self care first!
2. Practice no hurry
3. People are people
4. Stay in the moment
5. It is an honor and a privilege

^ I’ve been developing this over the latter half of the year. There was a little more room for self-reflection and self-improvement then (see: baby vs toddler) and I also was presented with opportunities to get in tune with that stuff, too (see: work leadership conference). I know I CAN be a better person and I owe it to myself/the world to try. So over time I’ve put these principles together, in my head. I should write them down. Well, I just did. So there. But. I don’t come close to living like this even 50% of the time, but may as well try. KEEP IMPROVING! That’s my 2015 goal I think. Right?

Oh yeah also:
3. Continue to attempt to get 7 servings of produce (fruit or veggie) a day. This shouldn’t be hard, and yet…

Lots to be thankful for in 2014. Security, family, love, health. Unbelievable goodness. And near mania but still. Good. 2014 was so busy. But so good. We are so very lucky. I just look back on 2014 and see a lot of growth and movement and hope. As usual these things come in streaks so having two good years back-to-back usually means…things take a turn for the less-good, soon. I am hoping 2015 is quiet and good to me, I see a lot of good ahead, but you just never know…

But for now I’m sticking with it. Here’s to a great 2014, and a superb 2015, I hope! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
