The Legend of August
August had never been my favorite. August is when school used to start, when cicadas start buzzing like a harbinger of doom, the month of Sundays that slams the door shut on carefree summer days. August was when we had a cancer scare with Jeff, and then reality with my Dad, and when you finally have to admit all good things must come to an end. August used to suck.
But then this August, our second daughter arrived, and changed it all. The cicadas sing a song of new life; the humidity wraps us in a cocoon that’s just our evolving family; the school buses remind us that our two daughters will grow, grow, grow. And that’s only a good thing.
Welcome, August. Welcome, baby girl.
