sparklers, sparks (creepy, emo, and possibly morbid)

“This barren July
We both wake up so dry
that no more tears can leave us.
And all we’ve found
are roads we can’t go down,
eyes on a day we can’t see.
I hope it comes.
I hope that water comes
and drenches us in our clothes.
The world at night
has seen the greatest light.
too much light to deny.

You never know,
you never really know.
And you can’t have people figured out.
One friend came in
out of nowhere, with lit
sparklers in both her hands for me,
and saved the day
when I had run away
to envy and black feelings.

And the world at night
could see the greatest light.
too much light to deny.

July, July,
the man I love and I
will lift our heads together.
July, July,
I’ve seen the greatest light
too much light to deny.”

—The Innocence Mission, July

and an old favorite for good measure…

“The train plunges on through the pitch-black night
I never knew I liked the night pitch-blacksparks fly from the engine
I didn’t know I loved sparks
I didn’t know I loved so many things and I had to wait”

—Nazim Hikmet, “Things I Didn’t Know I Loved”

Note: nothing sinister yet. Just some random words.

sinister awaits

A great dinner is cooking away in the crock pot, I am wearing a super cute new outfit (thanks Mom!), the sky was a beautiful pink and blue and yellow array this morning, and I snagged the last close parking spot just in time.

That can only mean something sinister awaits me today.

I await it, forebodingly.

ETA/unrelated to sinister:
-gave someone my parking spot on my way away from my swim at the U on Sunday. KARMA.
-went on a BIKE RIDE in JANUARY without a HAT in the SUN in MN yesterday…um, YEAH I DID. So freakin’ awesome.
-(possibly related to sinister, actually) saw a gorgeous full moon setting on my way in to work.
-almost done with The Book Thief. Then back to Infinite Jest (which Jeff bought me, thanks!).
-50 degrees today??
-I NEED COFFEE. NOW.
