fancy / EOTWs

“Oh you fancy huh?!”

—Drake, Michael, Jeff, etc.

I know I had a better quote to share but this is all that comes to mind. Naturally listening to the song as I type, too.

The past two weekends have been so solid that they deserve a great big

EOTWs

(End Of The WeekendS)

This weekend:
Home early Friday to the second BIKE RIDE!!!!!! of the weekend. Sunny muddy gorgeous ride around the lakes. Getting warm! I might believe it’s truly spring! Showering and sewing. Jeff home with groceries then I made homemade pizza rolls / BOMBS. They were giant but amazing. Thank you Eat Live Run. (Oh yeah timeout last week this triathlete whose blog I follow emailed me after a comment I left so that was pretty cool. Speaking of fandom / random?. Random fandom.) Dinner. Fell asleep watching various media while Jeff fixed some random stuff in the basement (????). Not sure. To Bed!

Up early Saturday = love being up early. Coffee? Yes. Cleanup. Massive spring birthdays gift wrapping ensued! Along with some more sewing. Sewing weekend (mission accomplished, though!). Another BIKE RIDE!!!!!! this time along the river. Gorgeous mighty river, so much sun. I really would like to bike the Mississippi sometime. Someday! Home, shower, clean up and back out again to LAURA’S M&M BIRTHDAY PARTY. She was 2. (“Laura is two,” as she said.) A very nice drive there under probably the most beautiful spring sky I’ve ever seen. So blue, such pretty clouds. I really am overwhelmed with the idea that SPRING actually exists and MIGHT ARRIVE. Whew.

It was a fantastico party all-around, one of my favorite parties in a long time! Christie is really the hostess with the mostess. She thought of it ALL! (Leave no great party stone unturned.) M&M varieties, cute favors and decorations, homemade ice cream cake, pizza, fancy beer, etc. Good times. I hit it off with Christie + Mike + Matt’s cousin Jake again (we were big buddies at Christie’s wedding 5 years ago). Now he is 10. Obviously we were meant to be friends, too bad we are 19 years apart. We started a ‘who can eat more pizza’ war which resulted in me eating more pizza than intended. Oops. Other great party highlights: talking to Glenn about his tax situation/issues (since it’s not a real problem it was funny), talking to Kaitlin about Europe and Mike and Kaitlin about Jeff’s crazy ‘pronunciate’ idea (not a word!) AND his idea of people rolling to get places (vs walking), drawing with chalk outside (cat-giraffe), helping Lily mow the stairs (dangerous), and Laura in the little car. Laura is just so darn adorable. She was also the victim of a theft from her car! But all was resolved.

We drove home listening to the end of the Butler-VCU game and summary on AM radio. The sky was still a bit light and we cruised from freeway to freeway. It was such an intensely Ordinary American Moment and for some creepy but true reason it filled me with intense joy—leaving a family birthday party for a 2-year-old, on my way home with my husband, listening to sports on the radio while driving the freeway. I think in the end, for all my whining, what I crave is the Ordinary American Life. With my quirks, but, you know. It was a very nice moment.

Jeff then decided to install a new ceiling fan in the back bedroom at 9pm. Only at our house would electrical work begin after dark on a Saturday night. THAT is how we roll. I spent awhile trying to help him figure out which circuit breaker to throw and did some laundry/watched a movie. Still sewing. Then passed out. Saturday night at our house = excitement supreme!!! However, Jeff installed the fan successfully, felt like a man, and we now have an awesome new fan. Go Jeff!

Up early today and did some yoga courtesy YogaYak/YouTube. Good stuff. Breakfast then out to Cottage Grove to visit Sue/then to Jeff’s friend Sarah’s parents’ house for HER birthday celebration. SPRING BIRTHDAY BONANZA! Her dad is an amazing cook and made us Mexican brunch. SUPERB in every way. Her parents were absolute gems and they just made me laugh and laugh. Her mom was so funny and wanted to bike everywhere. It made me think of ME in 30 years, ha! Good times had by all in the Grove. Home to have some fun before bed. Finished laundry, FINISHED sewing, talked to my mom, hopped on the bike again (Nokomis)!, read about gymnastics regionals, messed around, and decided to stay up late/skip the gym for more fun. Today also felt like an intensely normal Ordinary American Day and I loved it. DUH.

OK it looks like it’s time for bed. I will have to continue the last-weekend EOTW some other time. Or actually, in case I don’t, it was about: info sessions, Hell’s Kitchen brunch with Kristin and Alyssa, fancy shopping/girls in skirts in 30-degree weather, pastries with my friend Colleen, good conversations, St. Paul tequila bar / dancing with Kristin + friends for her bday, an excellent swim, baking, and some work. Solid stuff. I love weekends.

Good night!
